Hi, I’m Kiersten.
I’ve slept through it all.
Kiersten
I’m a lifelong hot sleeper who spent years waking up in a sweat at 2am. I’ve now owned two bed cooling systems, put one through a warranty replacement, and learned more about sleep temperature than any person reasonably should.
Why I built this site
For most of my adult life, falling asleep was fine. Staying asleep was the problem. I’d wake up overheated, kick off the covers, then get too cold, then overheat again. My husband had the opposite problem — he runs cold and practically needs an electric blanket year-round. We were fighting over the thermostat at midnight like it was a competitive sport.
A friend mentioned the ChiliSleep Ooler and I was skeptical. A water-cooled mattress pad? It sounded like overkill. But I was desperate enough to try it — and it genuinely changed how I sleep. Being able to set my side to cool while my husband warmed his was the kind of thing I didn’t know I needed until I had it.
“I didn’t realize how much bad sleep I’d been accepting until I finally started getting good sleep.”
A few years later I switched to the Eight Sleep Pod — and after four years of heavy use, had it replaced under warranty. So I’ve seen both sides: what these systems can do at their best, and how the companies handle things when something goes wrong.
The game changer I didn’t expect
If you’re pregnant and reading this — listen up. I was already a hot sleeper before pregnancy. During pregnancy I was basically a furnace. The combination of hormones, extra blood flow, and a belly that made every position uncomfortable meant sleep was genuinely miserable for a while.
Having a cooling system during that period wasn’t a luxury. It was survival. Being able to dial down the temperature on my side without waking my husband, and adjust it through the night as my body changed, made a real difference. It’s one of the reasons I feel strongly about recommending these systems — they help in ways you don’t fully anticipate until you’re in the thick of it.
What I’ve actually used
What Degrees of Sleep is
This site exists because when I was first researching bed cooling systems, I couldn’t find a straightforward comparison that helped me figure out which one was right for my situation. Most guides either read like press releases or ranked everything “best overall” without acknowledging that the best system depends entirely on who you are and what you need.
I built Degrees of Sleep to be the guide I wish I’d had. Honest comparisons, real tradeoffs, and a simple quiz that helps you figure out which system actually fits your life — not just whoever paid for the top spot.
Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy through them. It never changes what I recommend — I’d tell you to skip a product I didn’t believe in regardless.
